Role: Mechanical Technician

The position holder will be responsible for supporting Amotech Africa’s service operations through the provision of high-quality mechanical maintenance and condition monitoring services. The successful candidate will also play a key role in predictive and preventive maintenance, condition monitoring, and compliance with safety standards while contributing to the continuous improvement of service delivery. The successful candidate will be reporting to the Project Manager- Services and will be responsible for the following:

Responsibilities

  1. Conducting predictive maintenance and condition monitoring on rotating equipment such as compressors, turbines, pumps, gearboxes, and motors.
  2. Performing vibration analysis, oil condition monitoring, and process parameter evaluations to detect early signs of mechanical failures.
  3. Carrying out lubrication, bearing replacements, and alignment checks to extend equipment lifespan.
  4. Executing laser shaft alignment and dynamic balancing to maximize machine efficiency.
  5. Maintaining vibration and oil analysis databases and preparing detailed reports on equipment condition.
  6. Supporting business development initiatives to expand the company’s service portfolio.
  7. Ensuring compliance with company safety policies, risk assessments, and regulatory requirements.
  8. Performing any other duties relevant to the role in line with departmental needs and organizational objectives.

Competencies and Qualifications

  1. Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
  2. Proven experience in mechanical maintenance and condition monitoring across industries such as breweries and sugar manufacturing.
  3. Skilled in the operation, servicing, and troubleshooting machinery including fillers, labelers, bottle washers, packers, and depalletizes
  4. Proficient in condition monitoring techniques such as vibration analysis, shaft alignment, static and dynamic balancing, thermography, oil analysis, thickness testing, and leak detection.
  5. Practical exposure to NDT methods including Magnetic Particle Inspection, Liquid Penetrant Testing, and Ultrasonic Testing.
  6. Mobius Institute Certification will be an added advantage.
